In the summer of 2014, while living in southern Indiana, Edie wandered into the studio of an abstract acrylic artist and it changed the trajectory of her life. She began her apprenticeship shortly thereafter, followed by assisting and teaching her own art workshops to both adult and youth learners. Having previous dabbled in just about every creative medium, Edie found her voice in the vibrant colors and brush strokes of acrylic paint. Calling on her background in photography, poetry, and digital illustration, Edie developed a style completely her own. Her work combines elements of horror and whimsy - playing with color, line, and shape to push the boundaries of what “is” and what “is not” fine art.

edie rose is a self-taught multi-media visual artist and arts administrator based out of northeast minneapolis.

edie has built her practice around three major building blocks: sustainability, accessibility, and community.

In order to be cognizant of the eco footprint her art leaves on the world at large, Edie has shifted her material consumption and use towards recycled and upcycled material whenever possible. This means that every original work is 100% unique, from the canvas all the way up to the frame. In this vein, she has lead multiple community supply drives in order to encourage this practice in other creatives.

As a self-taught creative, Edie has identified several walls between the creatively inclined individual in an underserved community and the ability to find financial success and freedom in their practice. Beginning in 2022, Edie began curating and hosting art markets out of multiple venues in the Twin Cities metro, hoping to give those artists a place to show and sell their work without the sometimes rigid and inaccessible constraints of the fine art field. In 2023, Edie joined the board of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association. With NEMAA, Edie began spearheading community engagement programs that both focused on uplifting local creatives, and crafting spaces where those creatives can and do find community with other artists and potential clients.

Through her time with the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association, Edie found her passion in the fine art nonprofit field. Combined with her experience in arts administration and general management, she hopes to pursue this passion to it’s fullest extent. She is currently pursuing a bachelors degree to help further her professional development, hoping to move onto a masters program once that is complete.
